Denilson could be set to leave Arsenal following reports the midfielder will return to Sao Paulo.

ESPN Brazil understands Denilson’s former side could be about to offer the 23-year-old a way out of Emirates Stadium via a season-long loan.

Denilson has struggled to fulfil his potential at Arsenal since joining the club for £3.5 million in 2006.

The Brazilian has made no secret of his wish for a summer exit after revealing he spoke with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger about his future at the end of last season.

He said: “I’ve simply been to see Arsene Wenger and told him how I felt – and he has agreed to let me go. This has been the worst season of my life and I am so upset, so frustrated. I am a winner and I came here to win trophies but I’ve been here for five years and won nothing.”

Denilson was reported to have stormed down the tunnel just 20 minutes after coming on as a substitute during Arsenal’s 4-0 pre-season friendly win over a Malaysia XI this week.

Liverpool owner John Henry has hinted that Alberto Aquilani and David Ngog both have futures at the club.

Aquilani has been linked with a return to Italy after impressing during a loan spell at Juventus last season, having previously struggled for fitness and form at Liverpool.

Ngog has also failed to impress at Anfield, scoring just nine Premier League goals in 63 appearances. It has been speculated that a summer switch to Sunderland or Aston Villa could be on the cards.

However, the pair impressed Henry during the Reds’ 6-3 victory over a Malaysian XI on Saturday, with Ngog scoring twice and Aquilani displaying his creative qualities.

Reacting to the result, Henry wrote on Twitter: “One missing link last year: Acquilani (sic). Put the ball near Ngog and the goal and it’s going in. Too much talk of them somewhere else.”

Corinthians have made an improved offer for Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez.

Corinthians saw a €40 million (£35 million) bid turned down by City earlier this week, with the Premier League club said to be seeking a fee nearer £50 million.

ESPNsoccernet understands that the Brazilian team have upped their proposal to €40 million plus €4 million in add-ons. City are tempted by the terms although they could look to negotiate further.

Corinthians are under pressure to wrap up a deal before Wednesday, when Brazil’s international transfer window closes. Juventus have also been mooted as suitors, but no official offer has been forthcoming from the Italian team.

It is reported that City have concerns over how the South American club will finance the deal, but Kia Joorabchian has insisted they have the funds available, citing sponsorship and TV rights money.

City manager Roberto Mancini is already plotting for life without Tevez after confirming he will look to bring in the Argentina international’s compatriot Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid.

Should Aguero arrive at Eastlands as Tevez’s replacement, the 23-year-old will have big shoes to fill – the latter having scored 44 Premier League goals in 66 outings since arriving from Manchester United in 2009.

Charlie Adam scored from the spot on his first start for Liverpool as Kenny Dalglish’s side won another high-scoring friendly 6-3.

Having beaten Guangdong 4-3 in China three days ago, there were nine more goals in an entertaining clash against a Malaysian XI.

Adam, a £6.75 million signing from Blackpool, was named in midfield alongside Jay Spearing, Raul Meireles and Conor Coady, with Andy Carroll in front of Joe Cole in attack.

Adam was a lively presence in the opening exchanges and after 25 minutes played in Carroll, who went down in the area and earned the penalty.

Adam had to take the spot-kick twice but sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 1-0.

Mohammad Safiq Rahim equalised with a fine free-kick five minutes from half-time.

Liverpool made 11 substitutions at the break and after 68 minutes David Ngog scored following some poor defending.

The Frenchman added a second moments later with a thunderbolt finish.

Maxi Rodriguez made it 4-1 in the 76th minute before Mohammad Safi scored twice in as many minutes to put the hosts back in contention.

Maxi then scored a second of his own in the last minute of the 90 as the All-Stars chased the equaliser. And Dirk Kuyt netted the sixth when bursting through to slam home.

Arsenal were held to a draw by Hangzhou Greentown in the second match of their pre-season Asia Tour.

The Gunners were off-colour for the majority of the first half and could have conceded on a couple of occasions before Sebastian Vasquez put the hosts in front.

They belatedly found their feet in the closing stages of the first half and equalised through Carlos Vela, with no further goals in the second half as both sides made wholesale changes.

Greentown had the first chance with just 90 seconds on the clock, Wang Song breaking clear only to be denied by Vito Mannone’s legs.

Paulo Pezzolano then rapped the post in the 14th minute as poor Arsenal defending allowed him time to line up a curling shot.

The opener did come after Mannone blocked an initial attempt on goal following a deep free-kick, only to see Vasquez stroke the loose ball home.

Arsenal tried to hit back and good work from Bacary Sagna teed up Samir Nasri, starting despite the speculation over his future, with the Frenchman volleying low and just just wide of the post.

The leveller came on the stroke of half-time when Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin combined well in the penalty area, resulting in the Dutchman’s side-footed attempt being bundled to Vela, who had a tap-in.

Arsene Wenger made a full compliment of changes at the interval and while Arsenal were more solid in possession they never got going in attack.

A couple of chances for Aaron Ramsey and one Theo Walcott header over the bar were as close as either side got to a winner.
