Unbeaten Argentinos Juniors climbed to second place in the Clausura with a 2-0 away win against Banfield.
Franco Niell scored the opening goal after 31 minutes and substitute Mauro Bogado added the second in the 79th minute as Argentinos Juniors improved their record to three wins and five draws from eight games.
Estudiantes, a point better off and with a game in hand on their new nearest rivals, continue to lead the division.
Independiente won 2-1 away to Gimnasia La Plata despite going down to 10 men early in the second half.
Abel Masuero headed the hosts ahead after 19 minutes but Independiente levelled when Nestor Silvera took advantage of a fumble by veteran goalkeeper Gaston Sessa to prod home from three yards.
Carlos Matheu was dismissed a minute later for a second bookable offence, but Independiente continued to push for a second goal and were rewarded in the second minute of stoppage-time when they counter-attacked and Cristian Pellerano rifled a low shot past Sessa for the winner.
