Kaka’s father has suggested the Real Madrid star may be open to a return to AC Milan.

Kaka has struggled to live up to expectations in Madrid since his then-world record move in 2009, and was sidelined for the first half of this season through injury.

Rumours have persisted that he could depart the Bernabeu and, while Inter, Chelsea and Manchester City have been among the clubs linked, a return to Milan appears more likely should he decide to move on.

Bosco Leite, Kaka’s father and agent, was at the San Siro as Milan recorded a 3-0 victory over title rivals Napoli on Monday night. Asked if there was any prospect of a return, he said: “You’ll have to ask [Milan vice-president] Adriano Galliani. We’ll see what happens.”

Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri was coy about the chances of Kaka re-signing for the Rossoneri.

“The transfer window is closed,” he said. “We’ll discuss this issue again in the summer.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic indicated that he would welcome Kaka but said he was happy with the players already at the club. “Kaka is a great champion, but I’m satisfied with the squad we have now,” he said.

Liverpool defender Martin Kelly assured Reds fans that he is a “quick healer” after it was revealed that he will miss the next month of the season with a hamstring injury.

Kelly has been one of the few stand-out performers for Liverpool in what has been a disastrous season, providing defensive stability as well as a raiding threat down the right flank.

However, one of those forays down the wing saw Kelly pull up injured during the 3-1 defeat to West Ham, and it is reported in the Liverpool Echo that the England Under-21 man will be out until April.

“I took Scott Parker on down the right and when I took my last touch I felt a pull in my hamstring and there was no way I could carry on,” Kelly said. “I’m usually a quick healer and we have good medical staff at the club so hopefully I will be back soon.”

The injury means Kelly will miss Liverpool’s home clash with Manchester United, as well as both legs of their Europa League last-16 tie with Portuguese side Braga. Fortunately for Liverpool, they only have two league games in March, with Sunderland the other fixture Kelly will certainly miss.

Dalglish will now hope for better news on fellow injury doubts Daniel Agger, Raul Meireles and Fabio Aurelio. There is also a hope that record signing Andy Carroll will be ready to take his place on the bench against United.

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez insists he is happy to step aside to make way for team-mate Wayne Rooney.

Despite scoring twice in United’s 4-0 win over Wigan on Saturday, Hernandez is expected to start on the bench against Chelsea after Rooney avoided a ban for his elbow on James McCarthy.

But the Mexico international claims he is just a part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s ‘jigsaw puzzle’ and he is happy to play his part, whether from the starting line-up or the bench.

“I have no problems being on the bench,” Hernandez said in The Sun. “I understand that football is a team sport, not like golf or tennis, so you have to help your team when you play from the beginning but also when you come on from the bench.

“We are like pieces of a jigsaw and the boss decides how to use us. If Ferguson picks me for the starting line-up, that would be great but, if not, that’s fine, too.”

Meanwhile Chris Smalling insists he is not fazed by the prospect of taking on Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres at Stamford Bridge.

The former Fulham defender will line up alongside Nemanja Vidic in place of the injured Rio Ferdinand, and he is confident United will come away from London with three points.

“We know they have world-class strikers like we have but, whoever we face, we’ll be ready,” he said. “Off the back of a couple of clean sheets, we’ll be confident to let our boys at the front pull them apart.”
