Federico Marchetti is looking forward to a fresh start after completing his move to Lazio from Cagliari.

The goalkeeper passed a medical on Tuesday morning to seal a €5.7 million (£5.1 million) transfer to the Italian capital.

Marchetti, who was also a target of Juventus this summer, has put-pen-to paper on a five-year contract.

“I have chosen Lazio because it is an important project and a great club,” Marchetti said on the club’s official website. My aim from the very beginning was to join Lazio.”

Marchetti was frozen out of Cagliari’s first team last season after refusing to sign a contract extension with the Sardinian outfit.

The 27-year-old is ready to put the past behind him. “This is the end of a nightmare for me,” he said. “I have great enthusiasm.

“I am physically well as I trained every day as though I was going to go out and play. My conscience is clear and I am ready to begin this new adventure.”

Marchetti is set to succeed Fernando Muslera, who is expected to join Galatasaray later this week. Lazio will play in next season’s Europa League.

Cagliari 1-1 Parma

A Rolf Feltscher own goal earned Cagliari a 1-1 draw at home to Parma in Serie A.

Valeri Bojinov fired Parma into a 34th-minute lead at the Stadio San Elia but Feltscher’s unfortunate headed own goal 10 minutes into the second half meant the home side had to settle for a point.

Cagliari started brightly and young Parma goalkeeper Nicola Pavarini saved well to keep out shots from Daniele Ragatzu and Robert Acquafresca.

But Parma took the lead when Sebastian Giovinco led a swift counter-attack and picked out Bojinov, who swept a right foot shot past Islanders keeper Michael Agazzi.

Giovinco threatened a second goal on 37 minutes but his shot from a tight angle was well saved by Agazzi.

Acquafresca sent his close-range header high over the bar a minute from the break as Cagliari pressed hard for an equaliser.

Agazzi saved smartly again to deny Giovinco in first-half injury time.

Radja Nainggollan was off target with a diving header on 50 minutes from Michele Canini’s cross.

But five later Cagliari were level when Feltscher’s header from a Davide Biondini cross flashed into his own net.

Pavarini saved well from Massimo Gobbi as Cagliari pushed for a winning goal.

Six minutes from time Andrea Lazzari skied high over the bar after Acquafresca had carved out a half chance.

Parma threatened in the last minute but Agazzi comfortably saved Giovinco’s left foot effort after Francesco Valiani’s good work had given him a sight of goal.

Cagliari v Parma: Preview

Cagliari manager Roberto Donadoni believes his side owe their fans a final-day victory when they host Parma tomorrow.

The Sardinian outfit have not won since April 3 and Donadoni understands the fans’ frustration.

“We want to end the season well for the sake of our fans and the club, they deserve better,” he said.

Cagliari never came close to stopping the rot last weekend when they lost 4-1 to Serie A champions AC Milan.

“We are lacking confidence and determination, which are crucial if you want to win,” Donadoni said.

“We achieved our aim, which was to avoid the drop, last month but we certainly could have done better in recent weeks.

“We have to understand and learn from Milan’s example – despite winning the title, they still have shown the same hunger to win in their remaining games.”

Cagliari head into the game in 13th place, having collected 44 points from 37 games, and Donadoni is desperate to end with a win.

“We are missing a good win,” he said. “I would like to clinch it at the Sant’ Elia on Sunday.

“We want to finish the season with dignity.”

Rivals Parma travel to Sardinia having shown no signs of weakness this month.

The Gialloblu were widely backed to struggle this term but since replacing the sacked Pasquale Marino at the helm back in April, coach Franco Colomba has worked wonders in Parma.

Parma have won four of their last six games, including victories over Inter Milan, Udinese and Juventus.

Last weekend’s 1-0 win over Juve lifted Parma to 12th in the standings, one point ahead of Cagliari.

“We have done a great job and I’m proud of my players,” Colomba said. “We’ve had to battle and sweat in order to defend our Serie A status.

“We have succeeded and now we hope to end the season in style.”

Robinho at the double for Milan

AC Milan celebrated their Scudetto success in style with a 4-1 win over Cagliari at the San Siro.

Two goals from Robinho and others by Gennaro Gattuso and Clarence Seedorf earned Massimiliano Allegri’s side three points before they lifted the trophy in front of a sell-out crowd which had accompanied the team through the city prior to the game.

Andrea Cossu scored Cagliari’s consolation, but they had to admit defeat, just like the rest of Serie A this season against a rejuvenated Rossoneri side.

Milan arrived at the stadium after an open-top bus tour through the city.

They did a lap of honour before changing into their kits to prepare for their penultimate appointment of the season and tiredness following the pre-match celebrations looked to have taken its toll as Cagliari started brightly.

But after shots from Radja Nainggolan and Andrea Lazzari missed the target, Milan moved into gear and showed why they were a cut above in Italy this season.

Robinho put them ahead in the 22nd minute when he dribbled in from the left and hit his shot into the far corner of Michele Agazzi’s goal from just inside the penalty area.

Two minutes later, Gattuso added the second with a reflex header from 20 yards into an open goal after Agazzi tried to clear the ball from the feet of Alexandre Pato.

Pato should have added a third in the 34th minute when he was put through on goal with only Agazzi to beat, but he lifted the ball into the Cagliari goalkeeper’s hands.

A minute later, he set up Robinho for the third.

Robinho entered the penalty area in an almost identical position to his first goal and shot into the same corner.

Cossu was the only Cagliari player who still seemed to be playing and he scored a consolation goal in the 38th minute which drew applause from the home fans for the way he turned Mario Yepes in the area and beat Christian Abbiati.

The rhythm of the game dropped in the second half as the fans waited for the final whistle.

Before it came, Seedorf added a fourth in the 77th minute, exchanging passes with Pato before sliding the ball past Agazzi for a fitting conclusion to an unforgettable season for Milan fans.
